what's the difference between advertising art course and graphic design?

I’m more interested in advertising art because i want a career as an art/creative director for movies or commercials, maybe theater too.
state universities only offer graphic design, while advertising art is far more expensive so just in case i end up doing graphic design… is it like the same as advertising art?? will it still lead to the career i want?
I think advertising art is a part of graphic design ,however the ad art is more artistic than graphic design
